With the large displays these days, it’s only natural that one use high-resolution desktop backgrounds to make use of every available pixel. I was referred to mandolux which is a good site for this sort of thing, and I settled on the Blooming Cactus background. It’s a pink cactus flower on a black backdrop with a nice depth of field and good lighting.
Wanting to try this same effect at home, I grabbed on old shirt, strung it between two curtain rods, the propped up a fake plant from the bathroom:
I shot this in RAW at 1/13 f8 or f11. I was going for sharpness, which I got (check out the original), but the picture also reveals how disgustingly dusty this plant is. Nonetheless, it’s now my desktop background at work, and it’s centered in 3840 x 1200 pixels of inky blackness.
