the intersection

A friend and I went to Santa Cruz to take some pictures. We arrived kind of late to take decent shots of the coast, but we had some fun with long-exposure shots and balancing the camera on things without a tripod.

the intersection: fast & slow

We were parked near an intersection outside the park. As we walked back to the car, an RV (above, 30” f/4, ISO 200, 12mm) parked across the street, and its driver got out and walked across the street. While we were taking pictures of the intersection the man walked around a little and his dock barked from time to time. Eventually he passed by us on the way back to the RV. I offered a New Hampshirian “howyadoin” to which he responded nicely and asked if we were cops. We said “no,” but he drove off anyway.

I guess the cameras freaked out whoever was supposed to make the drop at the intersection. We’ll never know who that guy was and why he strolled around for a while.

the intersection: walking

Key takeaway: Setting the shutter speed to 30 seconds and then hitting the shutter while walking toward an intersection at night can have interesting results.
